Counselling and Psychotherapy for Young People - The Brandon Centre

ABOUT THE BRANDON CENTRE

LOCAL PARTNERSHIPS

Partnership with statutory services and other voluntary organisations is integral to the Centre's activities. We work closely with Camden Primary Care Trust, (PCT) the London Borough of Camden and Islington PCT in contributing to the effective delivery of the PCTs' Teenage Pregnancy Strategy.

We also participate directly in the delivery of Camden PCT's strategy for child and adolescent mental health services: we are part of a group of providers involved in a joint intake scheme and the director is the voluntary sector representative on Camden PCT's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Commissioning Group.

We have provided on site counselling and psychotherapy services in a number of local schools including Haverstock School, Chalcot EBD School for Boys, Agincourt House Pupil Referral Unit and Richard Cloudesley School.

We contribute to health strategy at a local level in Camden by participating in Gospel Oak's Health Forum's objective of building a healthier neighbourhood and in Islington as part of EC1 New Deal's health strategy for young people.

Haringey Youth Offending Service and Camden Youth Offending Service are our partners in a clinical trial that involves implementing and testing the effectiveness of multisystemic therapy (MST) with families of young people aged 13-16 in serious trouble with the law.

ACADEMIC LINKS

The director is a visiting senior lecturer in the Department of Psychology, University College London. The Centre is closely associated with the Sub-department of Clinical Health Psychology, University College London. Academics from the department manage the evaluation of the MST trial and are also responsible for analysing data from the Centre's programme of audit and outcome evaluation.
