HOW WE CAN HELP

Medical advice: If you are not sure what help you need, you can make an appointment at the Centre to speak to a doctor or nurse to get help and advice. When the Centre is closed, there is helpful information on our answering machine or this website.

Free condoms: You do not need an appointment to get condoms, you can drop in anytime when the centre is open. You can ask for a condom demonstration, which is offered on your first visit and can help avoid accidents in the future to keep you safe.

Chlamydia testing: Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) that you can catch through unprotected sex (where a condom has not been used or has split) and sometimes through oral sex. It often has no symptom, so you might have Chlamydia and do not even know you have it. Chlamydia is easily treated with antibiotics. If it is not treated, it can occasionally cause more serious problems for men and women.

We can test you for Chlamydia with a simple urine or swab test. We give you your result and advice in private and also provide treatment, if needed.

Emergency contraception ('morning-after-pill'): We can offer you emergency contraception and advice on what to do afterwards. This pill should be taken within 3 days (72 hours) after unprotected sex (where a condom has split or has not been used). Even if it has been more than 3 days, you should still see a nurse or doctor for advice. It should not be used as a regular method of contraception, but only for emergencies.

Contraceptive pills and contraceptive injections: You can make an appointment with one of our doctors or our nurse, to get advice and start a method of contraception that suits your needs.

Pregnancy testing: This is carried out by the nurse or doctor using a simple urine test and you get the result straight away. The doctor or nurse will be able to give you advice and offer support.

Unplanned pregnancy: If you know you are pregnant or have had a positive pregnancy test and the result is not what you hoped for, you can talk to a doctor or nurse. The nurse or doctor will give you advice, get you support and if you decide to do so will help you make an appointment with other services that carry out abortions.
